Mens Toupees: Hairpiece, Hair Loss And Male Pattern Baldness

Hair loss is something that affects millions of men world wide to varying effects. Some men affected by male pattern baldness don't have the kind of head that looks good bald, and so a billion dollar industry has sprung up trying to replace, regrow, or otherwise cover up the bald spots.
One option, probably more popular in years past than today, is the toupee. The toupee isn't the best option for everyone though, so it's important to do a little research before making the purchase.
Firstly, a toupee is typically made to replace a great deal of hair loss. The hairpiece is designed to cover a large deal of head space, so if a person decides to go down this route, it is probably best to shave the rest of the hair off to compliment the rest of the surface area. Toupees do indeed exists to cover smaller areas like the front and top of the head, but it's nearly impossible to get one that sits and looks just right.
This is another important factor to consider. The reason that the toupee has fallen by the wayside over the past few years is because it is increasingly hard to fine one that looks just right on a person's head. Most of the time, a hairpiece is purchased to restore confidence and cover up a potentially unattractive physical trait. A badly made or obvious toupee will only draw more attention to the hair loss. Well made and well colored toupees are very hard to obtain.
Something else to consider is color matching. If the look of the hair piece is important, it should closely match the man's original hair. It's hard to get an exact match, but the closer it can get, the better the hair piece will look in the long run. While it is tempting to buy a younger looking toupee, the coloring, style, and look often doen't work for older men. If the man's original hair color has gone significantly gray, a fully colored toupee is likely going to be a bit much, and will suffer from being both unbelievable and unattractive.
The other alternative is to look into some of the less expensive hair treatments. While a decent toupee will run around $200 and hair replacement surgeries can run into the thousands, there are some attractive options for a little cheaper. One option for those with thinning but not quite balding hair is a change in hair care. Hair care products like NutriOx are designed to make existing hair appear thicker and reinvigorate hair growth. A month's worth of treatments can be purchased for as little as $40, which in the short term is a little cheaper and more effective than the toupee.
Buying a toupee is a risky purchase because it is going to be the hair that demonstrates who a man is to whoever he meets. An ill-fitting or poorly colored toupee will reflect poorly on the person who purchased it. Patch and top of the head hairpieces are also a little easier to spot than full hair replacement. As a low cost alternative to hair replacement surgery, a toupee is an effective workaround for male pattern baldness. However, it is not going to work for every man, and the purchase should be treated with a great deal of trepidation.
